Files which mention Trump\u2019s name directly <a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/206023\/how-often-donald-trump-mentioned-epstein-files\">over 38,000 times<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/epstein-files-reveal-close-ties-to-trumps-influential-inner-circle\">the names<\/a> of his current and former advisors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Largely, he\u2019s resorted to downplaying the severity of what was done to Epstein\u2019s victims, as have his supporters. But when pressed about it by members of the press \u2013 women journalists, in particular \u2013 he\u2019s taken to name-calling and outright disrespect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week brought a new example of this, when CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2026\/02\/04\/kaitlan-collins-cnn-trump-not-smiling-epstein\/88505552007\/\">asked Trump<\/a> about the files while in the Oval Office. He began his response by once again dismissing it as a non-story, before calling her \u201cthe worst reporter,\u201d and claiming that her network\u2019s ratings are falling because of her mere presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He then continued: &#8220;I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen you smile. I\u2019ve known you for 10 years. I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen a smile on your face. You know why you&#8217;re not smiling? It Helps the President\n            <\/a>\n          <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n<p>Vice President JD Vance <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/factpostnews\/status\/2019151062423290343\">backed his play<\/a> during a subsequent interview with Megyn Kelly. \u201cThere was a moment in the Oval Office \u2026 [where], but Trump was talking to Kaitlan Collins. Trump says, &#8216;Why don&#8217;t you ever smile?&#8217; And it&#8217;s actually, like, so perceptive. Have some fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not the first time Trump and his team have employed this tactic of degrading and dehumanizing those who ask about his relationship with Epstein, and his presence in the case files. <a href=\"https:\/\/thestoryexchange.org\/these-little-piggies-wont-be-quiet-mr-trump\/\">Last November<\/a>, Trump himself made headlines for calling one journalist \u201cpiggy,\u201d and another \u201ca terrible person and a terrible reporter,\u201d after they questioned him on the subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tool he used in his attempt to silence Collins, though, is far older than that. Indeed, telling women to smile has been a sexist refrain for decades.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its intent is to make us feel simultaneously scrutinized and poorly received \u2013 in service of contorting us to fit into quiet, pleasing packages that delight men (and of course, never challenge them). Men who say this to women don\u2019t want to know about our displeasure, our frustration, our fatigue. They don\u2019t want to know about our humanity, and the fact that our being human comes with negative experiences, just like theirs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They want us to smile because they want us docile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn\u2019t just my female hysteria flaring up. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.popsugar.com\/news\/men-telling-women-smile-personal-essay-44017553\">Research<\/a> on the subject points to smiling as a social cue among mammals, human or otherwise, that is designed to mitigate threats \u2013 and communicate submission to that which is threatening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump employing this silencing method becomes even more galling when you consider what these files \u2013 the ones he\u2019s so reluctant to discuss \u2013 have told us about what Epstein\u2019s victims endured. \u2013 There are details of massages and much more, all coerced from unconsenting, underaged victims for the sexual pleasure of older, powerful men who appeared to glean as much satisfaction from victimizing these girls as they did from the physical acts they forced them into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A person with a sense of empathy for how traumatizing those moments would be to live through \u2013 and then to live <em>with<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thestoryexchange.org\/nobodys-girl-haunting-necessary-story-virginia-giuffre-jeffrey-epstein-abuse-victim-in-her-own-words\/\">if they\u2019re able to<\/a> \u2013 would want the victims to know justice, or at least some measure of closure. Especially as they\u2019re forced to relive their abuse on an international stage, amid a sharing of files that also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/politics\/2026\/02\/04\/epstein-files-rife-with-uncensored-nudes-and-victims-names-despite-redaction-efforts\/\">failed to adequately protect<\/a> their photos and identities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump, instead, tells the women journalists who press the subject to smile. His sycophants then tell these reporters to \u201chave some fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only, women journalists aren\u2019t going to smile about what was done to Epstein\u2019s victims \u2013 even if the president tells us to. And we\u2019re not going to shut up about it, either. &#x25fc;&#xfe0f;<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"block_5fc4b9ec0f0c84aa14fe4e0f3d9cf3e1\" class=\"wp-block related-post alignwide\">\n      <div
