The killing of a woman in Minneapolis by ICE agents is sparking national outrage \u2013 especially among other women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat we saw today was a murder \u2013 and murders in cold blood need to be prosecuted,\u201d Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York told members of the press<\/a> Wednesday outside the Capitol in Washington, D.C., following reports that Renee Nicole Good was gunned down<\/a> by an agent of U.S. Immigration<\/a> and Customs Enforcement while trying to drive past an ongoing operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many pointed to bystanders’ videos<\/a> that contradict Kristi Noem, the Homeland Security secretary, who claimed that Good was “stalking” officers and that the agent who shot her \u2013 as Good was driving away \u2013 was acting in self-defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota said that ICE agents\u2019 actions were \u201cunconscionable and reprehensible,\u201d and resulted in the death of a \u201clegal observer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cThis administration has shown, yet again, that it does not care about the safety of Minnesotans. Instead of protecting our communities, they are unleashing violence \u2013 terrorizing neighborhoods, and now killing a civilian,\u201d she said in an official statement<\/a>. \u201cThis is not law enforcement. It is state violence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some Congressional leaders have additionally called for Noem’s impeachment<\/a>. In response to the shooting, Rep. Robin Kelly, a Democratic congresswoman from Illinois, referring to her as \u201can incompetent leader, a disgrace to our democracy\u201d who should be removed from her post \u201cfor obstruction of justice, violation of public trust, and self-dealing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Republicans, however, have largely stayed in lockstep<\/a> with party leaders\u2019 telling of events, which cast Good as the aggressor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a press conference<\/a>, Noem said that Good was attempting to harm ICE agents, labeling her acts as \u201cdomestic terrorism.\u201d And President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social<\/a> that Good was \u201cobviously a professional agitator\u201d as well as \u201cdisorderly, obstructing and resisting\u201d ICE agents, reinforcing the narrative that her shooting was self-defense on the agent\u2019s part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Good, a 37-year-old wife and mother \u2013 who was a U.S. citizen \u2013 is remembered by those who knew her as \u201can amazing human being<\/a>.\u201d Her mother, Donna Ganger, told the Minnesota Star-Tribune that  \u201cRenee was one of the kindest people I\u2019ve ever known,\u201d noting that \u201cshe was extremely compassionate,\u201d and has \u201ctaken care of people all her life.\u201d Ganger also wanted people to know that Good was \u201cforgiving and affectionate.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On her Instagram account, Good wryly described herself as a \u201cpoet and writer and wife and mom and sh*tty guitar strummer from Colorado\u201d who was living life in Minneapolis with her wife and kid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other posts about her, shared following news of her death \u2013 such as from her alma mater, Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. \u2013 affirmed her passion for writing, and additionally cited her love of movie marathons and \u201cmessy art.\u201d ◼️<\/p>\n\n\n
